RP Miller

I sat out Westweek this year due to a hideously over-extended schedule but the one event I could not miss was the always fabulous House Beautiful party, this year at Peter Dunham’s oasis of understated chic, Hollywood at Home. As we approached, Kate squealed out loud and said, “Oh my God! LOOK at those chairs!” Imagine my delight and surprise when I rushed over to find that the coveted chairs were designed by and covered in my dear friend, Rodman Primack’s gorgeous fabric from his RP Miller line. I immediately grabbed him and made him perch on said chairs while I snapped away like a loving paparazzi. I mean, come on. Look at him!

Please note the slim yellow piping that makes these dynamite chairs really crackle!
The entire RP Miller line is carried at Hollywood at Home. Below are just a few of my faves. The pictures are good but you really should see the fabrics in person so you can appreciate the luxurious weight of the linen…

Eye Candy

So many great things on view during Westweek! Today, in no particular order, I present my booty (get your minds out of the gutter…)

The Pierre Frey event at Kneedler-Fauchere was extremely interesting. Pierre-Laurent Thierry did not disappoint as he walked us through a collection of fantastical, hand painted original fabric designs from the company’s archives dating from 1935 to 1955.

Sadly, I couldn’t get a decent shot of any of the patterns (too much glare off of the glass left me with a series of pictures of me squinting in exasperation). Rather than leave you high and dry, I thought I’d show you some of my faves from Pierre Frey’s collection. These images just give you a taste – I highly recommend you go and see them for yourself. The scale and fabrication is beyond. From top, Kubus, Kanto, Alhambra and Parade Ottomane:

Westweek

Today, it’s all info, all the time. I did my best to jazz it up but really, this a break down of three events not to miss at this year’s annual design frenzy Los Angelenos call Westweek. I am going to make a day of it on Wednesday, March 23rd and if you are in town, I suggest you do, too. All of the events below take place at the building everyone loves to love/hate, the Pacific Design Center:

10:30-12pm: Editor’s Round Table, Silver Screen Theatre

The editors from four of the five shelter mags left (Michael Boodro from Elle Decor; Dara Caponigro, former style director at Domino and current editor-in-chief of Veranda; Ann Omvig Maine from Traditional Home and the forthcoming online magazine, Trad Home and Newell Turner from House Beautiful) come together for a panel discussion moderated by Design Center president, Charles S. Cohen. I am very interested to hear the thoughts of the editors at the magazines who have managed to weather this insane economy. There will be receptions for all the players in different showrooms after. Consult the website for more info.

1:00-3:00pm: Pierre Frey Inspiration & Realism of Fabrics: Exhibit and Reception with Jean-Laurent Thierry. ”Curiouser & Curiouser” Alice in Wonderland

After researching a few of the artists invited by Pierre Frey to create fabric designs for him between 1935-1955, I am intrigued. Look at this surrealist fantasy called “L’Oiseleur” by Irene Rohr:

Plus Jean-Laurent Thierry, the present CEO, is rather jaunty, isn’t he?
