Idarica Gazzoni

Oh Idarica Gazzoni, ti amo! Rather than attempt a poetic description of the dynamite scale, patterns and color of this Italian dynamo’s Iznik-inspired fabrics and wallpapers, I am going to let the pictures do the talking (if you are not familiar with traditional Turkish Iznik patterns, click here to see some images). The only thing you are missing with these pictures are my shreiks of delight as I spot the next fabric…

God I love these flying mustaches (not the technical name fyi…)

I am feeling these bold patterns in these soft neutrals. Pretty but not overwhelming…

Inspiration Everywhere?

Instead of a Tuesday mailbag, I have decided to share an email with you that I got from one of my sisters recently. She is an infectous disease doctor in San Francisco and not only is she smart as a whip, she has a great eye. To wit:

Ok, you will have to excuse the doctor nerdiness and keep an open mind here but thought of you when on teaching rounds in the micro lab and saw microscopy of aspergillus (yes a mold) which was absolutely beautiful. Would want as my wallpaper somewhere. Seriously.

If you google image aspergillus, you will get lots – here is a sample. Something very jewel-like with the dye and the shapes, and an art deco 1920’s feel (to me). And if you like these, check out penicillium (also a disease causing mold – sorry, that’s where I hang these days) – below aspergillus:

Cole & Son

Happy Monday! This weekend I realized that my powder room walls had turned on me. They are painted a deep shiny raspberry and for years I have loved them passionately. But all of a sudden, I looked up from washing my hands and was turned off. Way off. They look garish and juvenile and I never want to see them again. How quickly the tides have turned. I have become a women obsessed with changing them and changing them soon. I love powder rooms and think they always provide an opportunity to experiment with patterns and colors you might not in a larger or more central space. And since I love me some wallpaper, I thought this might be my opportunity to use one from my favorite purveyor Cole & Sons. Hands down, they have the most interesting patterns and color range out there. Check out some of my faves like these from Fornasetti (from top Boemia, Ex Libris, Malachite, Nuvole):

Anthropologie!

Over this holiday weekend, my sisters and I hit the stores to get our Christmas shopping underway. One of our favorite stops has always been Anthropologie for its eclectic, pretty clothes. This time however the consensus was too many ruffles and artistic, difficult to wear shapes. I already veer towards what they love to call “the art teacher look” or even worse “Mrs. Roper chic” so I had to steer clear.

That said, Anthropologie is knocking it out of the park with their home collection. I have long been a fan of their textiles (they always have excellent curtains, rugs and pillows) but they have really kicked it up a notch with the furnishings and accessories. For instance, check out these fabulous Dutch Wax Ottomans:
