Friday Five heads to LA this week to chat with Molly Luetkemeyer of M. Design Interiors. Molly, whose personality is as sunny as her looks, creates modern interiors with a ’70s vibe. She started out in the film industry, having headed West from New York City with director Mike Nichols, but ended up enrolling in a design program at UCLA, meeting Kelly Wearstler at a party, snagging an internship, and the rest is interior design history. You may have seen her work in In Style (actress Julie Bowen’s house), as well as House Beautiful, Angeleno, Sunset magazine, and others. Her five picks lend a bit of insight to this groovy girl with great taste; they’re both classic and eclectic, just like her designs. Read the rest of this post »Design Milk Friday Five

This weekend, I took my nephew to see the new (well, relatively new) Dinosaur Wing at the Natural History Museum here in Los Angeles. We had timed tickets for the exhibition so we wandered into the Gems and Minerals Hall and all I can say is WOW! I immediately forgot all about the dinosaurs and became a wide-eyed kid in a candy shop. My nephew wasn’t as bowled over as I was so I didn’t get nearly enough time there but it did fan the flames of my deep and abiding love of minerals. I know, I know , I sound like a mega nerd but I challenge you to maintain that opinion once you feast your eyes on some of these:

A while back, I asked you all what you were looking at now that so many shelter mags have gone under. I have been keeping my eyes peeled in an ongoing search for outlets with interesting content and inspiring photography, and this morning I found one right under my nose. As I was searching 1st Dibs for furniture ideas for a client, I hit the wrong button and ended up on their homepage. Let me tell you, people, a treasure trove awaits you!
Their online Introspective Magazine is full of beautiful photographs and is very easy to navigate. There are tons of great articles (both current and past) in the Style Compass section, which reads like a who’s who of the most interesting and influential designers working today. The current article is on Nicholas Manville, the “style czar” of Bergdorf Goodman’s magical 7th floor. How chic!

Hey people. I’m Molly Luetkemeyer (loot-kah-my-er, just so we can get that out of the way). I have been a practicing interior designer at my firm, M. Design Interiors for the past 10 years (for the full back story, check out my about page). My ongoing mission is to guide clients to create personal, comfortable, chic homes that reflect their needs and particular tastes. No one should live in a showroom or someone else's house. Period. I am inspired by a range of sources from modern and contemporary art to nature, fashion and vintage design books to stuff I see on the street. It’s always coming at me and I want to share a little of it with you.
So take a look and as always, let me know what you think at molly at mdesignla dot com!Bookmarks
