Holland & Sherry

Faithful MollyLoot readers know that I like embroidery a lot, especially when it is sewn on a sumptuous array of fine fabrics like camel hair, cashmere, cotton, horsehair, linen, silk, suede, velvet and wool.  So you can imagine my joy at discovering that the goods produced by the venerable British fabric house, Holland & Sherry, are now being carried at Harbinger (as so many good lines are…).  I was wowed anew by the exquisite hand of all of their ground fabrics and thrilled by the range of embroidery designs.  I am currently obsessed with leading edges on curtains so when I saw these shots, I just about plotzed:

Idarica Gazzoni

Oh Idarica Gazzoni, ti amo! Rather than attempt a poetic description of the dynamite scale, patterns and color of this Italian dynamo’s Iznik-inspired fabrics and wallpapers, I am going to let the pictures do the talking (if you are not familiar with traditional Turkish Iznik patterns, click here to see some images). The only thing you are missing with these pictures are my shreiks of delight as I spot the next fabric…

God I love these flying mustaches (not the technical name fyi…)

I am feeling these bold patterns in these soft neutrals. Pretty but not overwhelming…

Harbinger

A while back, I did a post on Harbinger, one of my favorite shops in Los Angeles. In the intervening months, the fabulous proprietors, Joe Lucas and Parrish Chilcoat, have moved to a larger (and tonier) location on the happening La Cienega corridor. Their new space is a total treasure trove and I was shreiking out loud like a little schoolgirl as I moved through, discovering one gorgeous thing after another. There are perfectly composed niches throughout the store, showcasing the delicious range of objects on sale to their fullest potential. I want to live in these vignettes!

Sister Parish Trunk Show

Wednesday the 25th (tomorrow or today depending on when you receive this), the fabulous Harbinger will be hosting a trunk show (complete with cocktails all day, people!) to showcase the latest wallpaper and fabrics on offer from the venerable, Sister Parish Design.  SPD will also be introducing their new home collection, complete with all sorts of goodies, from ice buckets to desk accessories to pillows, all wrapped in Mrs. Parish’s iconic fabrics.
He doesn’t look terribly excited, does he?  I am though by the news that they are now making custom pillows in any of their fabulous fabrics.  A little bit of Mrs. Parish adds some panache to any room.  I mean, come on – look at these fabrics!

Party Time!

Recently, I was fortunate to be invited to two fabulous parties and thought it only right to share. The first was a delicious seated dinner at Christopher Farr’s divine gallery to introduce Farrow & Ball’s luscious new color palette of paints. I must say, the guest list was chock full of an exciting array of design pros: Peter Dunham, Kathryn Ireland, Oliver Furth, Kim Alexandriuk, Joe Lucas, Parrish Chilcoat, Pat McGann, Gary Gibson, Meg Joannides, and Ron Woodson, to name drop a few. All of the walls in the gallery had been painted in one of the new shades from Farrow & Ball and then paired with a rug or fabric from Christopher Farr’s incredible collection. Take a look at the results:

Oh my god, I am in love with this Anni Albers rug!

Shopping on Almont Drive

Yesterday, after having my mind blown by the Malick Sidibe show, Kate and I hit up the shops in Almont Yard looking for some goodies for clients. I am here to report that pretty things abound in that little commune of stores! First stop, Nathan Turner’s lovely store, where we spied these divine photographs by Oberto Gili. I love the simplicity of the images and the whole cycle of life thing…

Next up was Harbinger, which is actually comprised of two different shops. The first is home base for the interior design firm, Lucas Studio, and full of swank, one of a kind vintage pieces. These folks really have style coming out of their ears. Check out this rustic chic tablescape and groovy sort of African boho room setting:
