So often, people make such careful decisions about their sofas and rugs and coffee tables and beds but forget that the spirit of the room really comes to life when the final layer of accessories and personal items are laid in. Â As we are putting that final polish on a project, I always turn to Hillary Thomas’s “Chic Shop” to find Palm Beach-y, well-priced tchotchkes of all kinds. Â For starters, I love her “Rock and Rolla” line of finials (truly the jewelry of any room) named after rock songs. Â To wit: Peace Frog: Norwegian Wood: Heart of Gold: Orange Crush: Brown Sugar: Great, huh? Â She also has a bunch of vintage pieces for sale, easily navigated by category (and how I love a woman who starts her categories off with barware – truly a kindred spirit!). Â I have poured over the site and pulled a few of my faves but definitely check out it out for yourself. Â There are gems galore! The WASP in me can’t get enough of this bargello needlepoint doorstop: And she has a great range of “sit arounds” (as my dear friend, Farrah calls accessories) from earthy Japanese accents: To grotto-chic: To ethnic: To Topanga Canyon hippy-chic: To straight up 1960s Palm Beach: All of these goodies are affordable so would make great gifts, as well. Â (If someone wants to give me that ram sculpture with the crystal globe, I’d be a delighted and very grateful recipient). Â Ms. Thomas even has some cool art. Â I love this Doris Mitsch photograph of a Gorgonial coral colony (or sea fan, to you and me). Â You can purchase it in a range of sizes so can choose if you want it to hold down a wall in your beach house or work into a gallery hang of other photographs you already have. Â Either way, it offers a great graphic punch: Happy shopping and good luck getting this stuff before I do. Â Enjoy!
