One of the best things about vacation is getting to catch up on my mountain of interior design magazines. One of my favorites is Vogue Living Australia and I wanted to make sure you all know about it. The whole magazine has a bright, sunny aesthetic and manages to be cheerful and exuberant yet still sophisticated (all things I strive for in my own work and probably why I dig it so much). Also, it seems like everyone is having such a good time – even their party pics look like more fun than their staid, American cousins. I want to go see what’s up down unda!
Every magazine has product pages but theirs are dense and dazzling eye candy, full of great ideas and products. Check out two from their Jan/Feb issue (no judgments – I told you I was behind…)
Whoever is doing their graphic layout is killing it. Note the jagged edges around the copy on the “To Dye For” page…The articles are equally fearless. Check out these shots from a house on the Sydney beachside peppered with bright art and accents.
And this is who lives there:
See how happy and chic they are? I love them and I don’t even know them…But lest ye think they are a one tricky pony, the good people at Vogue Living AU can showcase a space with absolutely no color and still keep it fresh and provocative:
I love this shot. Funky, artistic and monochromatic. That sconce just kills me. And the drooping flowers? So jungle-y and unexpected. God bless the team that had that moment of inspiration. And how about this kitchen?
The owners made the cabinets out of reclaimed floorboards from a London squat. Love the juxtaposition between the industrial floor, the almost clinical walls and the raw, found quality of the painted wood. The whole magazine makes vitality feel so natural. It’s a good reminder to us all that we can be chic and elegant and still maintain a sense of humor and joie de vivre. Virgin flies direct from LA to Sydney. I think I have found my next travel destination. Enjoy!

I know exactly what you mean about catching up with magazine readings! Isn’t the best thing to soak it all in? I just found your blog but have admired your work for a long time now. So excited to follow your great posts! xoxo
Totally (as long as you don’t get too behind and then the mags reach critical mass and become quite threatening…). Thanks for the kind words!
I did a post on VHA as well and one of the editors wrote to me when he saw it – it has always been my fave and totally fits your style. Love your blog – happy Holidays!Elizabeth (modern24seven.blogspot.com)
How cool! I just checked out your blog – gorgeous stuff. Those malachite tables are beyond…
